Bogra Judicial Division:
Capital of ancient Pundravardhan, Bogra district rich in history and heritage is one of the important cities of North Bengal. Bogra, the gateway industrial city of North Bengal, is situated on the banks of the Karatoya River. Till 1820 AD this region of North Bengal was administratively known as Rajshahi, Rangpur and Dinajpur districts. All these three districts were huge in area. For administrative convenience, in 1821, Bogra district was formed with Adamdighi, Sherpur, Naukhila and Bogra thanas from Rajshahi district, Dewanganj and Gobindganj thanas from Rangpur district and Lalbazar, Kshetlal and Badlgachi thanas from Dinajpur district. At this time a Joint Magistrate was appointed as the administrator of this district. In 1832 this joint magistrate was empowered to collect the revenue of nearly half of Bogra district. In 1859 AD Bogra district was brought under the rule of a Magistrate and a Collector. As a result of this appointment, Bogra became a full-fledged district.
Bogra district with an area of 71.56 square kilometers consists of 12 police stations. The history of judicial department of district Bogra rich in art and culture is resplendent in its glory. In 1942, Bogra district was merged with the then Pabna Judiciary. Later Dinajpur merged with Jajship. In January 1968, Bogra Judiciary emerged separately. Bogra Judiciary started its operations with 09 employees and 05 judicial officers. In 1968, Mr. Mahibul Haque joined as the first District Judge. At that time, Bogra Judiciary started separately with these 05 courts, District Judge Court, Sub Judge Court, Senior Munsef Court, 2nd Munsef Court and 3rd Munsef Court. The then sub judge was Mr. Syed Fazle Ahmed Chowdhury (later sitting as a judge). The senior munsef was Abdus Salam (who later became a judge), the second munsef was Mr. Asaduzzaman and the third munsef was Mr. Arayes Uddin. Munsef courts were established in 1983 in the then 11 upazilas of Bogra district. In 1991, all the courts were again shifted to the district headquarters.
Mr. Abu Hena Rezaul Kamal was appointed as the first Chief Judicial Magistrate after the separation of the Judiciary Department from the Executive Department on 1st November 2007. Last 12/11/2015 AD. On the date Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Government Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 10-storey Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Building, one of the most impressive government buildings in the district. At present, total 41 judges are working in Bogra district at different levels. At present the learned District and Sessions Judge Mr. AK, M Mozammel Haque Chowdhury is serving as the District and Sessions Judge and Mr. Mohammad Rabiul Awal is serving as the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
